Camra mobile app lets you shoot photos and videos directly to the cloud

Image
Even if you’ve bought the highest capacity mobile phone, shooting lots of photos and videos will challenge your storage capacity. Repeatedly deleting and offloading files can get tedious. Camra, a free app for iOS and Android that’s been in beta for more than six months, has now launched globally, offering a different way of shooting that relieves you of the anxiety of running out of space on your phone. Camra offers a cloud-based solution to the storage problem, but with an unusual twist. Instead of simply letting you upload video to a server, Camra has you shoot directly to a server without the content ever residing on your phone. Even… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1Gn37u9 via IFTTT

Waze just got its biggest update since being acquired by Google

Image
Waze, the navigation app that uses crowdsourced data to warn you about incidents on the road, got a big update today for the first time in months. The update, which has is only available on iOS for now, brings an all-new design that makes it easier to get to your destination. Importantly, it focuses on reducing taps between you and getting on the road. A new map design is easier to read and makes alerts more prominent on the screen, so you’re able to actually see them at a glance. There’s also a new ETA panel that shows when you’ll arrive,… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1MOZ23g via IFTTT

Just Press Record may be the voice recording app you’ve been looking for

Image
Just Press Record is an unassuming app, doing little more than recording noise and saving it to iCloud. It’s available for OS X and iOS, though — and that makes it oddly unique. The app’s design isn’t even particularly great. It lacks clever functionality like slide-to-delete, which is pretty standard fare. The app also doesn’t link to Spotlight, which is fast becoming the default way I find files. It will work in Airplane Mode, but obviously won’t sync until you have a signal. It’s little more than a microphone button, which is both record and stop, but the simplicity of Just Press… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1VYSpkE via IFTTT

Adobe will restore the old Lightroom import dialog

Image
In the face of overwhelming opposition to some changes made in the latest update of Lightroom on the desktop, Adobe has announced that it plans to restore the old import workflow that was featured in app versions prior to 6.2. Adobe says it has spent time over the past two weeks carefully listening to community feedback, and in a blog post a few minutes ago, product manager Tom Hogarty announced that “we will restore the previous import experience.” The company is still working out the details and timing of a general update. Meanwhile, it has posted instructions for Mac and Windows 10 users who want to… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1RNW7YA via IFTTT

Review: Read’s ePub reading app for iOS will make you more productive

Image
Some people really love to read on their mobile devices — but for others, it’s a convenience that they can’t live without and try not to hate. If you have an iPhone or iPad, Apple’s built-in iBooks reading app provides a flexible and intuitive reading experience, but it’s not the only game in town. An elegant app called Read, which handles books only in the ePub format, is challenging iBooks on a number of points. Read is a pleasant alternative that adds valuable features to make the experience more useful for certain readers. For example, it encourages productivity in the form of highlighting… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1QBxIEF via IFTTT

Google kills off ‘OK Google’ detection on Chrome for desktops

Image
Fresh off of killing Chrome’s desktop notification center, Google is removing another big feature from its browser: ‘OK Google’ detection. As VentureBeat notes, Version 46 of the browser (on Windows, Mac and Linux) removes the hotword’s detection; it’s been available in the browser since Chrome 35, which came along in May of last year. As for why it’s removing the feature, Google’s providing the the same answer as when it removed the notification center: not enough people were using it. This was compounded by the fact that it only worked when you had Google.com open. It’s simply not as convenient as… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1KebaVk via IFTTT

Adobe rolls out fix for Flash flaw ahead of schedule, but maybe uninstall it anyway

Image
Just yesterday, Adobe was warning of a critical vulnerability that was affecting all versions of Flash, but said it would be a week before a fix was available. However, it was clearly worried about the security failure spotted by Trend Micro researchers and is today rolling out a patch that fixes the vulnerability that allowed attackers to remotely take control of a machine. While Flash is much-maligned and many people want to see it die, it’s nice to see a fix rolling out ahead of schedule for once. That doesn’t really excuse what a proven security risk Flash often poses… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1KebdjS via IFTTT

Dropbox changed its logo and nobody noticed

Image
Dropbox finally publicly revealed a competitor to Google Docs, but you might not have noticed that something is a little different: Let’s look at that more closely. Here are the old logo and new logo compared: The new logo is a gigantic change from the old one /s Harris Roberts from creative agency Figmints first noted the change on the company’s blog. The new logo keeps the same box icon, but changed the font to a much rounder, squatter, and longer sans serif that resembles a customized Motiva Sans. The new logo also uses an ever-so-slightly lighter shade of blue. Comparing… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1OzbdCV via IFTTT
