Kaboom lets you send self-destructing messages to social networks

Image
If you’re concerned about the content you put online, you might consider using an app that destroys content after a certain amount of time. But destructive apps rely on a careful ecosystem in order to really be, well, destructive. You can’t really take them and plop them somewhere else, like Facebook or Twitter. That’s the need that Kaboom, a new app by Anchor Free, tries to fill. The app, which launches today, allows users to share messages to social networks as well as over text and chat apps like LINE and What’s App. “We launched Kaboom because today we want users… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1KBlpsU via IFTTT

Google now lets devs create beta test groups using email invitations or links

Image
Google is making it easier for users to beta test Android apps. After launching its testing program two years ago, Google now allows developers to create open and closed beta programs via email or links. To populate a closed beta program, developers will need to invite users via email. Once an invite is sent, users simply accept the invitation, download the app and report their findings to the group. The open beta program is a bit simpler; whoever has a link to the beta testing group can give the app a shot. The open beta can either be left wide… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Insider http://ift.tt/1LZM6rw via IFTTT

Windows 10 steals your bandwidth to send other people updates

Image
Windows 10 launched on July 29 to much fanfare — it’s a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users — but along with the privacy issues, there’s another problem: by default, Windows 10 uses your internet connection to share updates with others across the internet. The feature, called Windows Update Delivery Optimization is designed to help users get updates faster and is enabled by default in Windows 10 Home and Pro editions. Windows 10 Enterprise and Education have the feature enabled, but only for the local network. It’s basically how torrents work: your computer is used as part of a peer to peer network… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Insider http://ift.tt/1KCOBNp via IFTTT

Facebook will now prompt you to go through a security checkup on your account

Image
Facebook wants to make it easier to keep tabs on who has access to your account. Today it’s announcing a new tool called Security Checkup, which acts like a set-up wizard for the platform’s security options. Once you click on the new option, Facebook will run you through several options to help keep your account safe. First it’ll ask you to log out of the devices you haven’t used in a long time – or perhaps even forgot about. It’ll then prompt you to set up Login Alerts, which does what it sounds like: notify you when someone accesses your… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Insider http://ift.tt/1I4z2No via IFTTT

The ultimate guide to local SEO ranking

Image
Many people have asked the question, “what did we do before the Internet?” After all, today, everything we do is governed by what we can easily find at our fingertips. If we’re going to a far away destination, we’re likely not opening a paper map; we’re using our phones. If we’re looking for a product at a store, most of us (in this particular demographic, at least!) are checking whether we can buy it online first before we check the stores. If you want to be found, you need to be visible. The rise of smartphones has intensified the importance… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Insider http://ift.tt/1LZBwkg via IFTTT

Apple Music’s first Snapchat story gives a peek inside the studio

Image
Apple Music has launched its first Snapchat story and it’s incredibly well put together. The company has coordinated the story across its global studio locations, from London to LA. It’s got top-notch production quality for being just a Snapchat story: it shows music synced across snaps in multiple locations and features interviews with Zane Lowe and Julie Adenuga. Here’s the video, which we grabbed right out of Snapchat so you can enjoy it right here, without it disappearing forever. It’s a good lesson for brands looking to use Snapchat on how it can be done well if executed correctly. You can view Apple’s… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web » Apps http://ift.tt/1MzJDUF via IFTTT
