Wow!! Burning Ship at the Squamish Terminals.

A huge fire at the Squamish Terminal docks sent huge plumes of thick smoke over the district on Thursday night.

The timber-carrying Star Atlantic ship — originally thought as the source of the smoke — has been moved away from the terminal, reported CBC News.

Firefighting crews from Squamish, West Vancouver, and Vancouver were responding to the blaze, said the outlet. Vancouver Fire Rescue tweeted that its fire boat was also dispatched.

“There was a significant amount of billowing and dark-looking smoke coming off the ship at the terminal," Mayor Patricia Heintzman told CKNW.

“It’s pretty smelly, pretty toxic smelling. There was a number of people down there and the RCMP has asked us to move away because not knowing the air quality issues which might arise from this.”

She urged people to stay inside to avoid the smoke, reported Global News.

Squamish is about 60 kilometres north of Vancouver.
