Whose fault would it be?

So I basically took part in a JV tournament for my high school team this weekend. Here are some things you should know about my school team:

-We didn't have any cuts this year because there were just the right amount of people.

-As a result, there are a lot of people who don't really understand how to play tennis who are on the team.

-My doubles partner for this tournament (and this is baffling that my coach would do this...not really, as he isn't the best at lineups.), has no idea how to play tennis...I think this may come off as exaggerated, but here are points to prove my case:

-Season is almost over, and he still has no idea what deuce or advantage side are. -Before the 2nd set, he asked me what he was doing wrong with his volleys, and how to hit them properly. -He frequently kept hitting at the net man, causing the guy to poach right at me and end the points. -He kept asking me to make all the decisions for him out there.

The general point here is that he basically just picked up a racquet this season after not touching one since he was 12.

So here's how it went down during the match:

-Jackson (my partner) missed just about every volley that I set him up at the net for (I made the ball nice and deep on my cross court hits), while I managed to have only three net errors out of the 5 times they actually hit at me at net (to be fair, they seemed to attack him more at net than me.) -He double faulted at least 5 or 6 times during the whole match, where I had none. -I only had two groundstroke errors the entire match, whereas he had more.

In short, we lost the match because they were smart about who they hit the ball to (to Jackson).

My question is this: Is it my fault we lost or his? My friends keep telling me that there comes a point in every match where it's usually fault of the other team mate too, and that I shouldn't blame my partner for the loss...yet I don't understand that one bit. I had to basically bust my ass to make sure we got anywhere in the match at all! I get I had three net errors, but think about it; over the flow of a potential 84 points that could be played in a match, I don't think that three net errors makes much of a great deal compared to the way my partner was badly missing easy opportunities that I set him up for. In addition, I only had those two groundstroke errors in the last set, AND I didn't double fault at all...so I'll leave it to you guys to judge. Was I responsible for this loss, even when I remained optimistic throughout, and encouraged my partner?
