Facebook’s data transfers will be investigated by Irish authorities

Following a ruling that the European Safe Harbor agreement is invalid earlier this month, Irish authorities plan to investigate the company’s data transfers under the act. According to the BBC, Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner has told Dublin’s High Court that she plans to perform a “quick” investigation into Facebook’s practices after Europe’s highest court ruled the country was required to look into the matter. The allegations come from privacy activist Max Schrems, who alleged that Facebook broke Europe’s Safe Harbor agreement when it was revealed the NSA spied on technology companies’ European users. Facebook, however, maintains that the case is “not about”…

Oculus unveils the consumer Rift, due Q1 2016

At its pre-E3 show today, Oculus finally unveiled the consumer version of the Oculus Rift. It’s due to be released in the first quarter of 2016. The new model looks much sleeker and lighter than the development models, and Oculus says it has worked to reduce latency and increase the clarity of the optics. It comes with integrated headphones – which the company says are tuned for VRs binaural audio. These are removable, however, should you prefer to use your own gear. Yelp now lets you book outdoor activities, bottle service and a round of golf

Yelp has added a raft of new business categories to its booking and ordering services in the US. The platform now lets you reserve your place at a VIP table at a nightclub, set up a round of golf at your favorite course, try a new outdoor activity like skydiving, send flowers and even make an appointment with a legal consultant. The company has teamed up with Vimbly, GolfNow, BloomNation, Vagaro, TableList and LegalZoom to expand its offering.
