North Penn High School students take action after scandal

Students at North Penn High School in Lansdale are taking action after a nude photo scandal erupted in the Montgomery County school district.

Investigators said the photos appeared on the file-sharing web site, Dropbox.

Some students at North Penn High School said the inappropriate photos that were allegedly posted were sent by the victims to friends and boyfriends.

"I think that it is awful," senior Allison Garber said. "I think the girls should not be exposed like that."

Now the students are banding together to try to move forward in a positive way.

"North Penn is really a great school," senior, Oscar Armas-Luy said. "We don't want to forget about all of that just because something like this happened."

Some students planned to leave class Monday morning, to show support for victims and to ensure the school holds perpetrators accountable.

But Garber said many students who planned to walk out instead had a discussion with faculty and their peers.

"All we did is meet in the auditorium with the superintendent and then Mr. Hynes, our principal," Garber said. "We talked about everything, we had a microphone that we passed around."

Friday, Principal Burton Hynes also posted a statement on the school web site addressing the issue.

"Investigations such as these take time to be completed," Hynes said. "There won't be any instant answers to questions we may have."

School officials were not available for comment, but say the situation is of great concern.

"They said they didn't know what they were going to do to the guy who created it, or the people, because it was more than one person," senior, Lauren Moore said.

School officials are asking parents to talk to students about the dangers of inappropriately using technology.
